En voici quelques exemples : la « tomboy », qui adopte des comportements habituellement associés aux garçons et est perçue comme une « tough » parce qu’elle ne correspond pas aux attentes liées à la féminité; l’amazone, à l’image de Lara Croft ou de certaines guerrières et superhéroïnes vêtues de costumes très révélateurs, pour le regard masculin; la fillette pure et fragile qu’il faut protéger ou sauver; la « vieille fille » ou la sorcière, figure de la femme sans homme, perçue comme étrange, suspecte ou menaçante simplement parce qu’elle échappe aux attentes; la « butch » lesbienne tournée en ridicule parce qu’elle ne correspond ni aux standards de beauté ni aux comportements normalisé et attendus des femmes;
